There are people that think that the music for the Cajon is not written because, they say, it is an “ear” instrument. This statement, which is false, encouraged the inappropriate study of this instrument for years and didn’t arouse the “professional” musicians’ interest in it. Nevertheless, there exists a series of rhythmic patterns written in musical notation and there is more and more music written for the Cajon.

The cajon has been included in some pieces called select music. For example, the Peruvian composer Enrique Iturriaga won, for the second time, the price “Luis Duncker Lavalle” for “Homage to Stravinsky for orchestra with cajon soloist”, work finished a few months after the Russian musician’s death.  It was played for the first time by the National Symphonic Orchestra under the direction of Luis Herrera de la Fuente, and the cajon soloist was played by master Ronaldo Campos.
